A Parksville Qualicum Beach resident made a report with Oceanside RCMP, after reporting being scammed out of $10,000.
The resident reported responding to a text message with a link supposedly from a mobile phone carrier on Sept. 20. It is believed the phone and data were moved to another phone thus allowing access to accounts. Two days later, another resident reported being scammed out of $2,200 responding to text from a 'friend of a relative' requesting an e-transfer.
During the week of Sept. 16 to Sept. 22, Oceanside RCMP received 286 complaints. Some of the other incidents included:
On Sept. 16, a locked vehicle was reported vandalized with damage to a door and ignition at the French Creek Marina. The same day, a wallet was reported stolen from a vehicle at Spider Lake Provincial Park in Qualicum Beach. Also Sept 16, a Gotrax Eclipse Ultra adult electric scooter with 10-inch tires was reported stolen in the 500 block of Chester Road in Qualicum Beach.
In Qualicum Beach on Sept. 17, a vehicle was reported stolen from the area of Kinkade Road and Flamingo Drive. It was located two days later.
On Sept. 18, an entrance gate was reported vandalized with damage estimated at more than $300 on the 1700 block of Country Road in Qualicum Beach. The same day, a vehicle window was reported broken and a purse stolen at Rathtrevor Provincial Park in Parksville, and another vehicle window was reported broken and a purse stolen in the area of Middlegate Road in Errington. A cash box was reported stolen from a roadside farm stand in the 2900 block of Christie Road, in Qualicum Beach, and a wallet and cellphone were reported stolen from a vehicle at Spider Lake Provincial Park parking lot.
In Parksville on Sept. 19, a vehicle window was reported smashed with a rock in the 700 block of Daffodil Drive. in Coombs, eggs and cash were reported stolen from a roadside food stand in the 2100 block of Halona Way.
On Sept. 20, a portable outhouse was reported vandalized in the 600 block of Memorial Avenue in Qualicum Beach.
On Sept. 21, a black Scott mountain bicycle was found in the 200 block of McVickers Street in Parksville. Also Sept 21 a Samsung tablet was found near Memorial Avenue and Rupert Road East in Qualicum Beach. Contact Oceanside RCMP during regular business hours to claim.
