The Oak Bay Police Department has released its weekly report, detailing several incidents that occurred between Aug. 19 and 25. The department responded to a total of 70 calls for service during this period, highlighting a series of traffic-related incidents and a vehicle theft.
August 19
A two-vehicle collision occurred on Cedar Hill Cross Road near Henderson Road.
A westbound vehicle collided with another vehicle that was pulling out from a parked position, causing the westbound vehicle to flip over and land on its roof. The Oak Bay Fire Department responded to the scene and successfully extracted the driver from the overturned vehicle. Although the driver was taken to the hospital as a precaution, no injuries were reported.
The 49-year-old woman driving the vehicle that pulled out from the parked position was issued a $109 violation ticket for an unsafe start.
August 20
Another collision took place on Monterey Avenue when a 70-year-old man drove into a parked vehicle.
The driver admitted to being distracted by the fire department at the time of the incident. He was issued a $368 violation ticket for driving without due care and attention. Both vehicles involved sustained heavy damage and required towing.
August 22
During a Counterattack road check on Lansdowne Road at Westdowne Road, police discovered a Honda Civic being driven with expired insurance.
The 20-year-old male driver was issued a $598 violation ticket for no insurance.
August 23
The police are investigating the theft of a blue 2006 Honda Civic. The vehicle was reported stolen from the 2000 block of Mowat Street, with the theft occurring sometime between 7:50 p.m. on Aug. 23 and 3 a.m. on Aug. 24.
August 24
During a speed enforcement operation on Beach Drive, police stopped a vehicle travelling 61 km/h in a 40 km/h zone.
The 49-year-old male driver was not only ticketed for speeding but also for driving without insurance, as his Lincoln Navigator's coverage had lapsed in March 2024.
