A wildfire risk reduction project could see piles burning on Fox Mountain as soon as Nov. 1.

BC Wildfire Service, in collaboration with Borland Creek Logging Ltd., will be conducting pile burning on Fox Mountain as part of a 23-hectare project to reduce forest fuels near Williams Lake.

The project is also aimed at restoring Interior Douglas fir stands to a more natural and desirable state.

Crews have already been removing surface and ladder fuels and pruning and thinning the forest to create crown separation and reduce the risk of a high-intensity crown fire.

Pile burning could take place anytime between Nov. 1, 2024 and March 20, 2025, depending on conditions.

The lighting of piles will depend on if weather and site conditions are suitable and smoke can dissipate.

Smoke and flames may be visible to people travelling on Highway 97 and from the south side of Williams Lake.
