PHOTOS: Metal-crunching carnage highlight of Salmon Arm Demolition Derby

Newly resurrected event runs June 14 and 15 at south fairgrounds

The Salmon Arm Demolition Derby started with a bang and ended in more than one cloud of smoke.

The Derby, resurrected last year with an added Swap Meet and Show 'N Shine, has also been extended into a two-day event of metal-crunching carnage. It attracted drivers from all over, from as close as Armstrong, to Kamloops and beyond.

The event was in jeopardy earlier this year due to "critical work" needed on the grandstand, but after organizer Dave Schwandt took it to social media, volunteer efforts got it up to code.

With the forecasted thunderstorm holding off Saturday, June 14, the event was a high-octane success and will continue on Sunday, June 15 from 9. a.m. to 4 p.m. at the south fairgrounds.
