Vandals and scammers are keeping Oceanside RCMP busy

During the week of Nov. 4 to Nov. 10, police received 252 complaints. Some of the incidents included:

On. Nov. 5, vandals on dirt bikes were reported to have damaged playing fields at the elementary school in the 400 block of Despard Avenue West in Parksville. The same day, downspouts were reported damaged on the new public washroom building in the Parksville Community Park. Two days later, vandals were reported to have fired paint balls at a building and vehicle in the 1300 block of Island Highway East in Parksville. In Qualicum Beach, a memorial bench was reported vandalized at Turnbull and Spider Lake Road on Nov. 8.

A resident reported losing $2,000 after responding to an email requesting gift cards be purchased and the information forwarded on Nov. 8. Two days later, a resident reported losing $300 responding to an online marketplace ad for a trailer.

On Nov. 6, a vehicle was reported stolen in the 100 block of Horne Lake Road in Qualicum Beach. The vehicle was recovered with all windows smashed. The same day, a residential break-and-enter was reported in the 700 block of Garrett Road in Qualicum Beach.

Outdoor security cameras were reported stolen in the 900 block of Englishman River Road in Errington on Nov. 8. One day later, a vehicle was reported stolen in the 400 block of Aquila Place in Parksville. The vehicle recovered by Oceanside RCMP in Qualicum Beach.

On Nov. 9, B.C. plate 099ELT was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 200 block of Evergreen Street in Parksville.
