“Council is always open to adjusting our priorities, undertaking new initiatives and generally finding new or better ways of supporting our community, so town halls can help inform that work by providing effective feedback,” says Mayor Kevin Murdoch.

An upcoming town hall meeting gives Oak Bay residents a chance to voice their concerns and engage with mayor and council.

“We are open to talking about any topic of interest to the community,” said Mayor Kevin Murdoch. “There may be a ‘theme’ to the evening, but the intent is to not be restrictive: We want to talk about things that matter to residents and businesses.”

The event is set for Thursday, April 24 in the Monterey Recreation Centre’s Garry Oak Room (1442 Monterey Ave.) starting at 7 p.m.

While town halls don't focus on specific projects or matters that will be going to council for discussion, Murdoch noted their importance.

“Council is always open to adjusting our priorities, undertaking new initiatives and generally finding new or better ways of supporting our community, so town halls can help inform that work by providing effective feedback,” he said.

Murdoch added that, throughout the year, locals have various ways of engaging the district, including emails, phone calls, council meetings, form submissions and resident satisfaction surveys.

“They all have value, but sometimes it's nice to have the opportunity for a shared conversation, and the town hall provides that opportunity,” he said.
