A driver is without his wheels for 30 days after sleeping at the wheel with the engine running last week.

A resident approached Oak Bay police officers on Sept. 21 around 10:15 a.m. with concern over an unconscious driver on Broom Drive near Beach Drive.

Police found the vehicle running with someone asleep in the driver’s seat. The driver woke and pressed the accelerator when police opened the door and instructed him to turn off the vehicle, Oak Bay Police Department said in its weekly news briefs.

The driver showed signs of alcohol impairment and subsequently failed a roadside screening. He was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
