Ready to dust off your bike and hit the road?
Repair Cafe North Saanich is hosting Bicycle Day on May 17, offering free bike repairs and tune-ups.
Held at Deep Cove Elementary School, the day event promises two-wheeled fun and practical assistance with dedicated bike repair specialists to tackle any mechanical woes.
"We'll be having a bunch of dedicated bike repair specialists on hand to help with repairs and tuning as well as representatives from Russ Hay’s Bike Shop, the RCMP and Capital Bikes,” volunteer Greg Allen said.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, Sidney Brass will provide live music.
Beyond bike maintenance, guests can also enjoy a display of creative Robot Lamps, crafted by students at Deep Cove elementary under the guidance of Repair Cafe volunteers.
Bicycle Day runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. While repairs are free, donations are gratefully accepted for charity.
Repair Cafe North Saanich has been serving the community since July 2020, hosting monthly events where volunteers help fix a wide array of items.
If Bicycle Day proves successful, Allen says they plan to make it an annual event.
Repair cafes are a global movement, promoting repair, reuse and community engagement.
