With thunderstorms forecasted over the next couple of days for parts of the Similkameen Valley, a warning has been put into place.
On June 20, the Lower Similkameen Indian Band (LSIB) issued a slope monitor warning via the Slope Monitoring System for the Ashnola and Chopaka areas, as weather forecasting showed a significant moisture pattern making its way into the Cascade Mountains. The warning will be in effect through the weekend until Sunday at noon.
Ashnola affected areas include:
- Tributaries, gullies and slopes near Lower Ashnola River
- Ashnola Road up to 16 kilometres
- Red Bridge Creek
- Crater Creek
- Webster Creek
- Ewart Creek
- Lakeview Creek
Chopaka affected areas include:
- Lower Similkameen River Valley
- Snehumption Creek
- Shoudy Creek
- Robert Creek
- Susap Creek
- Sintlehahten Creek
- Chopaka Road
"Please be aware of your surroundings while in these areas," LSIB stated. "Your safety, and the safety of others, must remain the priority."
LSIB will continue to proactively monitor the situation.
