Lightning sparks wildfires in Cariboo Fire Centre discovered June 15

One of the fires is listed as out of control, the other is being held

Wildfires expected to be caused by lightning were discovered Sunday, June 15 in the Cariboo Fire Centre.

Four wildfires were discovered Sunday, June 15, in the Cariboo Fire Centre - both suspected to be caused by the lightning storm that hit the region late Saturday evening and into the early hours of Sunday.

The largest one is an estimated 80 hectares and is listed as out of control Monday, June 16, 3.5 km northwest of Tatla Lake.

BCWS crews are currently responding, with aviation resources and heavy equipment supporting their efforts. 

"Suppression actions are being taken to limit the spread of this unwanted wildfire," notes the BC Wildfire Service fire information map site. 

The second fire was discovered 3.5 kilometres west of Kallyn Road in Esler on the outskirts of Williams La,e 

It is being held and measured at three hectares as of Monday, June 16. 

The third  and fourth fire are very close together. 

One is 6.7 km southeast of River Lakes in the South Cariboo and discovered on Sunday, June 15. 

It is estimated to be .37 hectares in size and is being held.

The other is 6 km southeast of River Lakes is estimated at 1.1 hectares and is also being held.
