The world is a dangerous place to live in, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it. Albert Einstein We live in perilous times. Crime, high prices, health care challenges on one hand - fires, floods, excessive heat, etc. on the other. Williams Lake has its share of those problems, and last week’s fire was a wake up call to be prepared for emergencies. Other major woes include an unreliable emergency facility, crime, and homeless druggies making downtown areas unpleasant, even dangerous, by defecating and leaving used needles in public places. Certainly some people make the world a dangerous place to live in, but as Einstein said, too many of us don’t do anything about anything. Letting off steam on facebook and protesting won’t make it anything better. We have to Do Something – take action - ourselves. Our most pressing problem at the moment is the constant closing of the Cariboo Memorial Hospital emergency facility. The B.C. government lifted the requirement that medical staff must have COVID shots, but that won’t solve our problems, they go deeper than that. It’s high time customers (victims?) had a voice. I was thinking city council could have a town hall meeting with health authorities in attendance where local citizens could ask questions, air their grievances and maybe suggest some solutions. Our MLA Lorne Doerkson was ahead of the game and is “Doing Something.” To give our community a chance to let the powers-that-be know “enough is enough,” he is holding a health care rally in Boitanio Park at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, August 2. Even if you don’t have a health concern now, you don’t know when you might. Please, go to the rally, and speak out.
