North Westside residents have a chance to safely get rid of their old paint cans, dead batteries, and other household hazardous waste in July.

A hazardous waste collection day is being held on Saturday, July 19, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the North Westside Road Transfer Station on Sugarloaf Forest Service Road, just past Killiney Beach.

This event is exclusively for residential hazardous waste and only open to residents who are authorized to use the North Westside Road Transfer Station.

The drop-off is free of charge, and residents can also bring electronics, computer gear, small appliances, light bulbs, and fixtures.

How to prepare items:

Check for warning symbols like corrosive, flammable, explosive, or poisonous;

Keep items in their original containers;

Do not bring empty containers (except paint cans);

Pack everything upright in an open box, not in garbage bags.

Leaking containers, as well as industrial or commercial waste, will not be accepted.

To get to the transfer station, head to the junction of Westside Road and Sugarloaf Forest Service Road, about 3.2 km past Udell Road in Killiney Beach. Signs will be posted to help direct traffic.
