Quesnel Flying Club will be sharing its enthusiasm about aviation Saturday, May 25.
The club is hosting a Quesnel Airport Appreciation Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the airport maintenance facility, said Dave Edwards, flying club executive member.
“We haven’t done one for a number of years so we wanted to resurrect it,” he said.
Joining the club will be the amateur radio operators club, Quesnel Search and Rescue and the Prospectors Car Club.
The radio club will be demonstrating calls to other parts of the world and one of the members hopes to set up some telescopes for daylight star gazing.
Admission is free and there will be a concession stand provided by Bliss.
“Fly-ins are welcome,” Edwards said, noting the club has invited other clubs from Prince George and Williams Lake.
Today there are about 30 members in the Quesnel Flying Club, however, not all of them are pilots.
Chuckling Edwards said at 63-years-old he is one of the youngest members with many in their 70s and 80s.
“We do have a 15-year-old girl who is interested.”
His first flight was at the age of six with his uncle who owned several planes. He started flying himself in 1982 and owns a Grumman trainer two-seat side-by-side.
“It’s way more expensive to fly today,” he said. “It’s tough to get into. We do have one young man in Quesnel who I took on a flight who is now working for WestJet.”
