The fourth annual launch of Victoria fleet trading cards tends to awaken the kid in everyone, and celebrates National Public Works Week.
The city released its latest five new limited-edition cards – available at city hall while supplies last – showcasing the vehicles Victoria crews use to build, maintain and protect local streets.
“These trading cards offer a fun way for residents of all ages to connect with the vital work that keeps Victoria thriving,” said Simon Upshon, acting assistant director of public works.
The vehicles featured in this year’s trading cards, the fourth consecutive year the city launched them, are mostly electric and contribute to the goal of reducing Victoria’s carbon footprint by electrifying or renewably powering 80 per cent of its vehicles by 2040.
“From maintaining roads, parks and water systems to responding to emergencies and keeping our streets safe and clean, our fleet vehicles – and the dedicated crews behind them – work every day to support the well-being of our community,” Upshon said in a news release.
Electric vehicles highlighted – complete with stats on the back – include the lawn mower, heavy-duty truck, fire truck and pickup truck. The fifth card showcases the 12,000-kilogram power curber.
“Have you ever poured melted chocolate into a mold and watched it set in place? The curb machine does that on our streets, pouring concrete curbs and gutters of all shapes and sizes to keep vehicles on the road and guide rainwater,” the card reads. “This machine only has two speeds, turtle and rabbit!”
Victoria’s fleet was recognized as one of the 100 best in the Americas for 2025 by NAFA Fleet Management Association, an award that recognizes public sector fleets committed to excellence in operational performance, sustainability and service delivery.
National Public Works Week is May 18 to 24 across North America and celebrates the contributions of those in planning, building and managing the everyday operations at the core of local communities.
