Potters and conservationists are teaming up in Williams Lake to raise funds for local nonprofits through the annual Empty Bowls Campaign.
At least 160 bowls are being made by members of the Cariboo Potters’ Guild and will be available to purchase at the Laughing Loon and the Bean Counter Bistro and Coffee Bar located downtown from April 14 to the 25, or until all the bowls are all sold.
“There are still bowls trickling in,” said Natalie Swift, a member of the guild who is coordinating potters to get the bowls made and who herself has made 24 bowls.
In the past, the Empty Bowls Campaign has raised an average of $3,000 for local food banks. This year, donations will go towards the local Salvation Army food bank, the Women’s Contact Society and the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.
The bowls can be bought during business hours for a minimum donation of $25. On April 17, a free bowl of soup will accompany the purchase of a bowl.
The Empty Bowls Campaign is being coordinated this year by Dani Gastaldello, program coordinator with the Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society which coordinated the campaign in 2021 and 2022 as well.
