The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) announced at its recent board meeting that it will be providing support to one of the region’s community gathering places.

The CRD will be providing $40,500 from its Community Works Fund allocation to install solar panels at the Anahim Lake Community Association’s community hall. The upgrade will help decrease the carbon footprint of the facility by reducing external electricity needs, as well as free up funds for other community hall projects.

A total of 27, 460 watt panels will produce energy of about 13,245 kWh annually.

Since the facility is not owned by the CRD, a contribution agreement between the district and the community association is required to manage the provision and use of the funds. The community association is responsible for managing the project, maintaining financial records, reporting on measurable results and retaining ownership of the asset for a minimum of 10 years.

The CRD still has $55,000 available through its Community Hall Energy Efficiency and Water Conservation funding envelope for upgrades at other community halls around the region.
