City council approved proclaiming Local Government Awareness Week in Williams Lake for May 11 to 17, 2025. May 14 will also be Asset Management Awareness Day in the city. The proclamation is an ongoing initiative by the Union of BC Municipalities in partnership with CivicInfo BC and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs. The goal is to promote awareness and education of the roles and responsibilities of local government and encourage citizen participation in local government processes. The city departments include corporate legislative services, municipal services like parks, streets, utilities, solid waste collection and recycling, the regional airport, protective services including fire, emergency support services and bylaw services, community services like recreation programming, policing support services, financial services, economic development, and development services. The 2025 theme for the Local Government Awareness Week is infrastructure. A report to council said the city will work to share the municipality's role in "shaping and responding to the needs of residents."
