A new subsidy program will help Central Saanich residents reduce their utility bills and energy emissions.

Residents of Central Saanich concerned about rising utility costs and improving home comfort now have a valuable opportunity to gain insights into their energy usage with a new subsidized home energy evaluation program.

Launched recently by the district, the initiative allows residents to book an EnerGuide assessment conducted by a district-approved energy advisor for a reduced price.

The program slashes the initial evaluation cost to just $99, saving residents a significant $400. A follow-up, post-retrofit evaluation is also heavily subsidized, priced at only $50, offering savings of over $200.

The district emphasizes that this evaluation is a crucial first step in enhancing a home's overall energy efficiency.

Assessors will analyze air leakage, insulation levels and heating systems to identify areas for improvement.

Beyond identifying inefficiencies, the district says an EnerGuide home evaluation also unlocks access to various local, provincial and federal funding programs.

This evaluation is a prerequisite for the district's popular Heat Pump Financing Program, providing residents with a zero-interest loan of up to $12,000 to transition away from fossil fuel-based heating.

"In Central Saanich, residential buildings account for 11 per cent of our community's greenhouse gas emissions," said Mayor Ryan Windsor. "An energy evaluation helps you see how you can lower your utility bills and invest long-term in your home or improve property value. It's a win for our residents and a win for the environment we rely on."

The program is exclusively available to properties within Central Saanich boundaries.

Residents can find eligibility requirements and a convenient application form at CentralSaanich.ca/EnerGuide. Central Saanich renters and homeowners with questions can call 250-652-5789 or email climate@csaanich.ca.
