The District of Central Saanich is looking for public input as it reviews zoning for the Keating Business District, Moodyville, Turgoose, and Island View at East Saanich Road.

The work would see Central Saanich potentially update the zoning to permit a range of businesses and re-consider the height of buildings. The district is asking the public to weigh in on permitted uses, building height, parking considerations and more.

The district is also looking at how to support childcare operations and whether other business activities, such as fitness classes and food trucks, should be permitted in municipal parks.

“The goal is to support business opportunities and enhance the vitality of these areas,” said Ryan Windsor, Central Saanich mayor, in a news release. ”The district says by advancing bylaw, policy and land use changes; it can better support economic development and childcare while revitalizing small commercial pockets in Central Saanich. The District is also reviewing land use in Keating Business District to better attract businesses and emerging industries."

The commercial zoning review is part of implementing the district’s Official Community Plan and council’s strategic plan.

Residents and business owners can learn more and have input into the proposed updates by attending an open house on Tuesday, Sept. 17, between noon and 6 p.m., at 1512 Keating Cross Road.

Register for the open house and complete online surveys on the project at at https://letstalkcentralsaanich.ca/economiczoningupdate.
