Cariboo Memorial Hospital construction is coming along, and the construction crane will be going away, after having been a fixture in the city skyline.
Currently the tallest structure in Williams Lake, the crane has been lit up over the city for more than a year as the expansion of Cariboo Memorial Hospital grew upwards.
Christmas lights have infused the crane and the city with some extra holiday spirit at night, which will continue through this holiday season. The crane was also a noted hazard for pilots fighting the wildfire in the Williams Lake River Valley during the summer.
But while the crane coming to town heralded the beginning of a much-anticipated hospital expansion and upgrade project, the crane packing up to leave marks another exciting stage in the project.
The dismantling of the construction crane means the main structure of the hospital redevelopment is complete, said Interior Health.
"We are now moving forward with the interior fit-out phase," said Brad Mackendrick, project manager.
The crane's work on the construction project is expected to be completed by the end of December, with the crane being disassembled in January of 2025.
