Canada Day is rapidly approaching and both Qualicum Beach and Parksville will have plenty of fun events on offer throughout the day.
In Qualicum Beach, the day begins with a pancake breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the Qualicum Legion grounds. From 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. there will be entertainment by the Q Jumpers in the Legion Garden.
The Outlander Band will play at Veterans Way and Memorial from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
There will be BBQ hamburgers, hotdogs and drinks from noon to 6:30 p.m., and the Beer Garden will be open from noon to 9 p.m.
From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. there will be bouncy castles, roving artists, face painters, a balloon artist, a dunk tank and games.
The Qualium Beach Pipe Band will play in front of the main stage at 12:30 p.m., with opening ceremonies to follow from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
A fly over is planned for 1:45 p.m., followed by cake cutting inside the Legion Hall.
From 1:45 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., there will be a Cloggers Dance in front of the main stage and then musician Mike Jarvis will play on the main stage from 3 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Cheers will perform on the main stage from 5 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., followed by the Apollos at 7:30 p.m.
In Parksville, Canada Day kicks off with a Shriners breakfast in CCCU parking lot on Craig Street from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The parade starts at 10 a.m. on Island Highway East. From noon to 9 p.m. there will be music, activities, demos and displays in Parksville Community Park
The Summer by the Sea Street Market is set for 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Craig Street.
Activities in the Parksville Community Park will include a food truck festival from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Main stage music and official Canada Day ceremony at Parksville Outdoor Theatre from noon to 6:30 p.m.
From 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. there will be entertainment, activities, displays, demos and children's games
The Main stage lineup at Parksville Outdoor Theatre includes:
Noon to 12:45 p.m. - Mount Arrowsmith Pipe Band 50th anniversary performance
12:45 pm - Opening ceremony
1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. - Time Well Wasted
3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. - Sarah Smith
5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. - The Joints
Activities throughout the Parksville Community Park will include face painters at picnic shelter (1 p.m. to 5 p.m.); waterfront gazebo music with Sylvia Humble, David Hart, Woodstick and Fred Saliani (1 p.m. to 9 p.m.); Craig the Magician at Gathering Plaza (1 p.m. to 7 p.m.); displays, demos, childrens' games and Canada Day photo op (1 p.m. to 7 p.m.); learn to build sandcastles with master sculptor David Kaube at small sand pit (2 p.m. to 5 p.m.); and Canada Day cake and cupcakes at the picnic shelter at 2:30 p.m.
There will be free bike valet parking in Parksville Community Park from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
