Two major developments headline a packed list of public hearings for Kelowna council on June 17.
One proposal involves land use changes and rezonings for the Glenmore Protective Services Campus (GPSC). The $39 million project plans to build a new fire hall and training centre on John Hindle Drive, replacing the aging Glenmore Fire Station on Valley Road North. The new facility aims to better serve the expanding Glenmore community and nearby areas.
Another significant item is the Burtch/Harvey Area Redevelopment Plan, which proposes seven new buildings ranging from six to 39 storeys, adding around 1,700 residential units. The tallest towers will face Harvey Avenue, gradually stepping down toward Burtch Road. Council narrowly approved this plan in a 5-4 vote on May 12.
Also on the agenda is a proposal by the Okanagan Metis and Aboriginal Housing Society (OMAHS) to construct two rental apartment buildings on Kneller Road in Rutland.
Other items include a townhouse development on Killdeer Road, updates to tenant protection measures, and amendments to Heritage Conservation Area development guidelines and bylaws.
