Kelly Benoit and Nova-Lee Dixon are peer volunteers building relationships to help support people getting into treatment and recovery.

Substance use peer engagement personnel were on the streets Aug. 19 in Williams Lake.

Interior Health peer volunteers Kelly Benoit and Nova-Lee Dixon were out and about making connections to some of the people on the streets in Williams Lake.

The program is a new one, helping to build bridges for people struggling with substance use towards treatment and recovery. Interior Health is recruiting people for peer support teams and peer volunteer roles across the health region.

The Interior Health website said the program is meant to reduce harm and promote health and well-being for people struggling with substance use.

Watch for peer volunteers out in the community in hi-visibility vests, attempting to connect with people who need their help.
