UPDATE: Hunt continues in Cherryville area following Vernon vehicle thefts

Man believed to have stolen ATV flips it, then steals truck and trailer that owners were pursuing him in

UPDATE May 20:

RCMP are investigating an early morning break and enter that led to a cross-country chase of a stolen ATV through the Vernon area on Friday.

Vernon Motorsports was broken into around 5 a.m. May 16.

Suspects cut through a fence and stole a side-by-side ATV and a trailer carrying a child-sized quad.

The trailer was later recovered, and the side by side was spotted driving first on Noble Canyon Road and later on Creighton Valley Road near Cherryville.

During an attempt to recover the ATV, another person in a side by side attempted to stop the stolen ATV and collided with it, causing both to roll.

The owner of the stolen side by side arrived on scene and confronted the suspect. After a brief confrontation the suspect jumped in and stole the owner’s truck, which had been left running, and fled the scene.

The vehicle is a blue 2022 Ford F-350 with BC license plate of RV7851 and was last seen towing a flatdeck trailer.

Anyone with information, or who has seen the vehicle in the photo, is asked to contact their local police or Crimestoppers.

ORIGINAL May 16:

RCMP are on the hunt for a man believed to be involved in multiple vehicle thefts in Cherryville.

Vernon Motorsports reports the shop was broken into around 5 a.m. Friday morning and a Yamaha R-MAX with a single axle trailer loaded with a Yamaha Raptor 90cc were stolen. The quad and side-by-side were last seen in Lumby, but the trailer was found.

A Cherryville resident of North Fork Road says she saw a man overturn an ATV on the road Friday morning and proceeded to steal a blue Ford F150 truck and trailer right in front of her residence.

"The people were in their F150 with flatbed trailer pursuing their stolen side-by-side out of Harris Creek," Chantelle Mybelle told The Morning Star. "They tried to block him in front of my house in Cherryville and the (perpetrator) flipped the side-by-side. A struggle ensued and the (perpetrator) stole the truck and trailer that had been pursuing them."

She watched the man head up North Fork, excessively speeding through the school zone.

"Please be careful on the roads out here," she advised, adding he may be heading up the North Fork Forest Service Road or Creighton Valley and RCMP are on site near the school.

"Do not approach the man as he is violent and could be armed! Call RCMP. The man has blood on his face and approached a farm up North Fork stating he needed help."
