Body discovered in Port Alberni park; death considered 'suspicious'

Call came in Monday, June 16

Port Alberni RCMP continues to investigate after a body was discovered in a local park on Monday, June 16.

Police received a call at 5:41 p.m. about a body discovered in Dry Creek Park, which transects uptown Port Alberni from 10th Avenue down to the Alberni Inlet. Access into the dog park and disc golf course were taped off at the Fourth Avenue entrance to the park, as well as at the top of a path on Dunbar Street at Ninth Avenue.

Frontline officers located a deceased person with apparent injuries, according to an RCMP spokesperson. Based on the initial information the death is being treated as suspicious.

Forensic Identification Services were at the park Monday night to process the scene, and both the RCMP's General Investigation Section and the BC Coroner's Service are trying to determine the circumstances that led to the person's death.

While police say they have identified the person, they have not released any information including gender or a name. Police are appealing for anyone with information to call the Port Alberni RCMP Detachment at 250-723-2424.

Access to the park was reopened by Tuesday morning.
