Grab an inside look at what goes on behind the scenes during Public Works Week's open house in Penticton.

The city's public works team is hosting an event on Thursday, May 22, offering residents a free tour of its workspace at City Yards — located at 616 Okanagan Ave. — from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Held in celebration of National Public Works Week, the drop-in event will feature multiple outdoor stations, providing interactive displays about services including electrical, water, sewer, garbage collection, parks, roadwork, transit and more.

“We’re excited to invite everyone back for our annual open house, which shines a light on the services that keep our community running smoothly,” says Kristen Dixon, the city's general manager of infrastructure. “While this has become a popular field trip for local schools, we also invite members of the public to drop by and learn more about the people, work, and infrastructure that deliver your essential services."

Registration is required for groups of more than 10. Groups can register here.

National Public Works Week — May 18 to 25 — is marked across Canada every year to recognize how "public works professionals serve their communities by meeting their needs and making them safer and more vibrant," the city said in a release.
