The Cariboo Regional District has closed its 150 Mile Share Shed Wednesday, April 23, because of a bed bug infestation.
"Unfortunately, the contents that were in it are now being disposed of," confirmed CRD manager of communications Gerald Pinchbeck Wednesday. "An exterminator is expected to arrive tomorrow remove the infestation while the site is closed."
Pinchbeck said once the exterminator has completed their work, the site will need to be closed for at least 24 hours after, meaning the Share Shed may not reopen until Saturday.
"I do want to mention that Share Sheds are not for disposing of mattresses, clothed furniture, clothing, or unwashed bedding materials," he told the Tribune. "They are for small household items that can still be reused by others."
Used mattresses and box springs need to be disposed of as waste at the Central Cariboo Transfer Station on Frizzi Road, while clean clothing and bed sheets which are in good condition can be directed to a thrift store, he added.
