Applications are open for the Capital Regional District's (CRD) Constable Sarah Beckett Memorial Scholarship.
Presented annually, the $2,000 scholarship is given to a post-secondary student living in the capital region who has expressed an interest in pursuing a career in law enforcement.
To be eligible, the student must demonstrate academic achievement, financial need and community service. It is open to students of all ages, from those just starting their educational journey to adult learners transitioning careers.
The award was created by the CRD Traffic Safety Commission in memory of West Shore RCMP's Const. Sarah Beckett, who died when her cruiser was struck by a drunk driver in 2016.
Traffic Safety Commission chair Steve Martin said in a news release that it is hoped the scholarship can "elevate awareness of traffic safety issues and the community service provided by police."
The deadline to apply is June 27. Applications can be made at: crdtrafficsafety.ca/cst-sarah-beckett-memorial-scholarship.
