Ambulance and muscle car crash on Bowen Road in Nanaimo

One patient was in the ambulance, but no further injuries caused by crash, say fire crews

A muscle car jumped the median and collided with an ambulance that was on its way to bring a patient to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

The crash happened at the intersection of Bowen Road and East Wellington Road shortly after 1 p.m. on Friday, April 4.

Capt. Chad Porter of Nanaimo Fire Rescue told the News Bulletin that there were two paramedics in the ambulance as well as one patient, who was transported into another ambulance and taken to hospital, but he didn't believe there were any injuries as a result of the crash.

The driver and sole occupant of the muscle car said he pulled out of the Chevron gas station and when he hit the gas he lost control, accelerating over the median and hitting the ambulance.

One lane of Bowen Road was blocked as RCMP investigated and emergency crews cleared the scene.
