All wildfires in the Okanagan under control in early season heat

A wildfire that sparked south of Merritt is now under control

A wildfire fire that sparked on Highway 5A, south of Merritt is now under control.

The blaze, which was discovered on June 8, is believed to be human-caused. The fire grew to 0.3 hectares before it was contained by BC Wildfire crews.

There is currently a ban on category 3 open fires in the Kamloops Fire Centre. Campfires and category two open fires are still permitted in the area. 

A multi-day heat alert has been issued for southwestern B.C., with daily highs above 30 C forecast for the week of June 9.
