$60K and counting: Another successful year for Victoria’s Hike for Hospice

The fundraiser marked its 14th year supporting Victoria Hospice’s end-of-life and palliative care

Victoria Hospice’s annual Hike for Hospice returned to Willows Park in Oak Bay on Sunday, May 4, in support of end-of-life care and grief services.

The 3.5-kilometre walk, which also served as a fundraiser, drew more than 100 participants who walked through Oak Bay to honour loved ones and support hospice programs.

Event organizer Carley Gibson said this year’s event raised nearly $60,000 – and counting.

All funds raised will support Victoria Hospice’s palliative and end-of-life care services, Gibson said.

“We also have a bereavement support centre out on Chatterton and they run workshops,” she said. “They’ve got counsellors for people dealing with grief after their loved ones have passed, as well as a specialized child and youth counsellor.

“We also have our spiritual health coordinator and a music therapy program as well.”

The event kicked off at 9 a.m., with live music, speeches and a moment of silence to honour loved ones. The walk began an hour later.
