2 Shuswap firefighting teams deployed to assist in provincial efforts

8 members assisting in Dawson Creek, Fort Nelson hot spots

With wildfire season looming locally, local firefighters are already being deployed to assist in areas of the province already engulfed.

On Friday, June 6, the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) announced the deployment of local resources to help firefighting efforts in Dawson Creek and Fort Nelson, the current hot spots in the province. A Rapattack team has also already been sent to aid in the Fort Nelson fires.

Joining the fight is the new Tappen Sunnybrae Type 3 Wildland engine with the team of Marc Zaichkowsky, Lesley Tessier and Jeremy Wozniak, joining them from the Eagle Bay Fire Department.

A second structure protection unit was also deployed, with members from Scotch Creek, White Lake and Shuswap Fire Departments. Those members include Brian Dalgleish, Keesha Friesen, Tony Smith, Mike Engholm and Matthew Denny.

"We thank them and all our firefighters from across the CSRD for their continued hard work and dedication," the CSRD said in a social media post announcing the deployments. "Stay safe out there!"
