Miséricorde (Misericordia) plays at the Salmar Classic Theatre at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 24., 2025.

A handsome, sexually ambiguous loner wreaks havoc on a picturesque French village in Miséricorde – a delightfully twisted, darkly comic crime drama.

Directionless loner Jérémie travels from Toulouse to the sleepy village where he grew up to attend the funeral of his former boss, a respected baker. The return of the handsome young man after a long absence causes a stir in this tiny community, and he soon becomes an object of fascination for the baker’s widow, her fiery son and the local priest. When suppressed resentments violently explode, Jérémie faces a desperate situation – until he realizes that his charm and good looks might offer the route to his salvation.

Misércorde bubbles with absurdism as it lays out a curious mystery that pulls you in not because it withholds the truth from you, but because it asks the why of how humans operate and of our many quiet vulnerabilities. Blending elements of a dark comedy, crime drama and erotic thriller, Miséricorde is a sharp, sinister, yet funny thriller – not to be missed!

French, with subtitles, Miséricorde (Misericordia) plays at the Salmar Classic Theatre at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 24. Tickets are available at the door for $8 (cash only).
