Back by popular demand, Canadian Country Music Association Award winner Brett Kissel was in Williams Lake Wednesday and Thursday for two soldout performances.
Standing just five feet seven inches, the phrase “tiny but mighty” came to mind watching the 27-year-old Alberta native as he delivered one soul-felt tune after another to the delight of the fans crowded close to the front of the stage and right back into the rafters of the Gibraltar Room.
“I’m going to stand up on these boxes as often as I can and if you don’t think you are getting a good enough look at me or this band then you need everybody to get up out of their chairs,” he said as the concert started out.
It has been three years since Kissel last performed in the lakecity, and within moments of feeling the love from the crowd he admitted that it had been too long.
Whether it was his latest hits, songs he was trying out on the audience for the first time, requests of older hits coming from the floor, or renditions of classics such a John Denver’s Rocky Mountain High or Thank God I’m a Country Boy which warmup act Dan Davidson returned to the stage for or Shania Twain’s Man! I Feel Like A Woman!, Kissel did not disappoint.
For those folks who haven’t been to a concert lately, did you know you get asked to wave your cell phone flashlights in the manner once done with lighters?
Because it was an all-ages event, there were many young fans in the audience sharing in the privilege of seeing live music in their hometown.
Kissel told the crowd he and his wife are expecting their third child in 2019, and that he will be performing O Canada at the Grey Cup being held in Edmonton, Alta. on Sunday, Nov. 25.
