Dust off your dancing shoes because this year, Diwali is for everyone and the annual Festival of Lights celebration always includes dancing.
This year, in Williams Lake, a dinner and dance, with some drinks as well, will be held on Oct. 19 at the Thompson Rivers University - Williams Lake campus at 1250 Western Avenue to celebrate the annual festival.
Diwali is a traditional annual festival in India, celebrating the end of the harvest season.
Organizers said they have been hearing from a lot of young people, all pushing for a party for everyone to get together. While for many years in Williams Lake there have been Diwali celebrations hosted by women, for women, this one will open the doors to everyone. While the event is being held on election day, it doesn't matter the results, there will be a party, said the organizers.
"The food will be top notch," promised Moe Khan, one of the organizers. Tickets are $50 and include Indian food for dinner, appetizers and two drink tickets. Khan said premium alcohol drinks as well as non-alcoholic options will be available for purchase as well.
The event is open to everyone and is a community celebration the organizers say will be a "great chance to meet and celebrate together."
Doors open at 6 p.m. and the event goes until midnight. This is an all-ages event and tickets are available at the Petro Canada gas station. For more information contact 778-961-0707 or 604-790-3745.
