Mural graces temporary Markey Mechanical Ltd. building in Williams Lake

Owners hope they will be able to rebuild within a year

Four months after a fire destroyed their building and two service vehicles, Markey Mechanical Ltd. owners Keith and Marg Tjosvold of Williams Lake are well-established in a temporary spot.

They plan to rebuild, but for now are leasing a building on Mackenzie Avenue North.

To move into the building they had to do a few upgrades to make office spaces and make one part of the building the sheet metal shop.

Keith also recently hired local artist Dwayne Davies to paint a mural on the building's south-facing side, which Davies completed in early October.

"Dwayne approached me to see if I was interested, and I thought it was a good idea," Keith said after he and Dwayne posed for a photograph. "He did a nice job."

Hopeful they won't be at the location for more than one year, Keith said the old burned building is all cleaned out, and they are now waiting for an engineer to come by and give them the go-ahead.

He had done some work for the owners of the building he is renting and thought of it immediately after the fire as a possible location.

As for the mural, Davies said he pieced together some images and came up with a design.

"No one would let me paint them in the mural," he added, smiling.

The fire at Markey was on June 16 and started in one of two service vehicles before spreading to another vehicle and then to the building.

His crew carried on doing service calls the Monday after the fire.
