An employee who received burns while refuelling a generator pump Wednesday in Williams Lake is expected to make a full recovery, RCMP Staff Sgt. Del Byron said Thursday.

The RCMP, B.C. Ambulance and the Williams Lake Fire Department responded to the incident, initially reported as an explosion, at 1170 South Mackenzie Ave. around 12:45 p.m.

At the time of the incident a subcontractor was resurfacing the asphalt at the site.

“Their tar truck had a big base with tar and an open flame going to keep the tar fluid, and the open flame ignited the fuel when the worker was refuelling the generator,” Byron said.

Williams Lake Fire Chief Des Webster said the man suffered flash burns to his hands and face, but is expected to recover.
