BC Ferries is commemorating its 65th anniversary with a special Saver Fare promotion, offering trips between Vancouver Island and Metro Vancouver for $65 or less.

The company’s one-day special, taking place on June 15, is a token of appreciation for its loyal customers.

From humble beginnings with only two ferries in 1960, BC Ferries has evolved into a major transportation network.

Today, the company boasts a fleet of 37 vessels, transporting over 22 million passengers and eight million vehicles annually.

"A lot has changed in 65 years, including the challenges," said Nicolas Jimenez, president and CEO of BC Ferries. "What hasn’t changed is our purpose – to connect people and communities."

The Queen of New Westminster, the company’s oldest ship, is turning 61 this year, highlighting the importance of fleet and infrastructure renewal across the system, “especially as seasonal demand continues to rise and reliability remains top of mind for customers."

Looking ahead, BC Ferries is preparing for the future by adding four new diesel-electric hybrid Island-class vessels, expected to arrive in 2026, to improve inter-island travel.
