The Village of Keremeos was recognized for their efforts towards reconciliation with the Community Excellence in Social Responsibility award from the Southern Interior Local Governments Assocatiation.

Council for the Village of Keremeos returned from the annual Southern Interior Local Government Association with recognition for community excellence.

The Social Responsibility award recognizes the village for their efforts of moving towards reconciliation.

Specifically, the award highlights the Every Child Matters crosswalk, located right outside the village offices.

The crosswalk was resurfaced after it was originally painted due to substantial wear it suffered over the winter.

The new surface is intended to be more resilient and longer-lasting.

Mayor Jason Wiebe noted in his report to council at their May 5 meeting that the renaming of nixʷinaʔ Park was also part of the efforts celebrated and recognized by the award.

Both the park and the crosswalk were the result of months of discussions and work with the Lower Similkameen Indian Band.

Improving the relationship between the LSIB and the municipality has been one of the focuses of  Keremeos' council since they were elected in 2022.
