The CVRD is looking for input from the public as it updates its parks and trails plan

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is engaging with First Nations, residents, interested parties, and other governments for the update of the 2007 Regional Parks and Trails Master Plan.

While the 2007 plan has provided strong direction guiding the CVRD’s regional parks and trails program towards the long-term vision, much has changed and an update to the plan is required.

The process provides an opportunity to consider a renewed vision, principles, goals, and priority actions for regional parks and trails in the Cowichan region, as well as updated regional parkland acquisition priorities.

Once completed, the updated plan will guide strategic and operational decisions about the regional parks and trails system for the next 10 to 15 years.

“The Cowichan region is well known for its abundance of remarkable parks and trails, and they’re one of our prized assets that makes this such an incredible place to live and recreate,” said Kate Segall, chair of the CVRD.

“We’re asking residents to take a few minutes to provide their input in this first phase of the project, which will be critical in guiding future management decisions for our comprehensive regional parks and trails system.”

The CVRD has created an engagement portal for the Regional Parks & Trails Master Plan at www.planyourcowichan.ca, where residents can provide input through a survey and web map, as well as learn more about the regional parks and trails system.

The CVRD will also be hosting several open house events across the region to connect with residents in-person and collect feedback.

The first open house will be held in Ladysmith on Nov. 23, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Aggie Hall, 1110 1st Ave., and the second will be held in Duncan on the same day from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Quamichan School, 2515 Beverly St.

A third open house in Lake Cowichan will be held Nov. 24, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Lake Cowichan Recreation, 311 South Shore Rd., and the final open house will be held the same day in Mill Bay, from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Kerry Park Recreation Centre, 1035 Shawnigan-Mill Bay Rd.
