Abbotsford storyteller Gordon Sutherland will perform June 25 and 26 in Williams Lake.

A storyteller from Abbotsford will be bringing a one-man show to the Williams Lake Seniors Activity Centre June 26 and 27.

Gordon Sutherland, in his 70s, said his show Senior Landscape promises to pop out rhyme, reason and laughter like pills from a blister pack.

“My wish is not only to entertain, but inspire seniors to feel good about our shared journey through the Senior Landscape,” he said.

Sutherland has done storytelling in retirement homes for 40-plus years.

With Senior Landscape, he shares experiences of his own life plus some of the ones people in the retirement homes have shared with him.

“I want people to feel good about being a senior. To explain our walk in the senior landscape is a new reality - because it is.”

Recently, he completed grief support training through the Abbotsford Hospice Society.

Time, he said, is not a senior’s friend, but the time together can be filled with tears and laughter if people are honest with one another.

Sutherland has also written and produced 13 plays in the Lower Mainland and acted in community theatre.

During the 1970s and 1980s, he performed at open mic poetry nights at Vancouver cafes.

He has been married to his wife Coco for 41 years. They have two children and two grandchildren.

Sutherland is also a veteran and member of the Royal Canadian Legion.

The two shows will begin at 1 p.m. both days and run about 90 minutes.

Kylie Green, Seniors Activity Centre manager, said tickets for the show are $5 and available at the centre.

Sutherland hopes to do shows in Quesnel and Prince George in the fall.
