Annual event continues the fun of former Salty Street Fest

The inaugural Springfest on Hudson, replacing the Salty Street Fest, was a resounding success judging from the laughter and cheers echoing throughout the street.

Following much the same format of the previous festival but presented by Rotary, all the favourites were back at the Saturday, May 10 event that filled Hudson Avenue. The crowd was well entertained by live music by the Canoe Rockers and a kid zone with Evan the Juggler, Chris the Clown, face painting, bikes and the highlight event, the Pie Eating Contest.

From apple to bumbleberry, contestants raced to be the first of their pastry opponents to clean the pie plate. To make it a fair shot, there were two rounds, a 10 minute one for adults and a five minute bout for kids with the prize for first or most finished, and another for the messiest face, of which there were plenty.

Among the adults, which were all men, Curtis Litun finished first just under the wire, while in the kids' class, Braxton Wiebe bested the competition, including reigning champ Hudson Riley.

The event also had registration for Sunday's Salty Dog Enduro mountain bike race, but the Saturday event was focused more on family fun this year, rather than the serious biking side of things.
