The 32nd annual Pacific Brant Carving and Art Show returns to the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre on April 5 and April 6.
The show is sponsored by the Mid Island Woodworkers Guild and the Oceanside Carver’s Club, with invited guests DeCosmos Fine Arts Society, according to a news release.
“All skill levels, youth and novice through expert will be competing for ribbons and cash prizes in 70 categories,” said Greg Weller, MIWG show co-chair. “This is one of Canada’s best known wildlife woodcarving competitions and in recent years we have expanded to include a woodworking competition.”
Last year, more than 200 pieces were submitted for the competition, with carvers and woodworkers from as far away as Manitoba and Idaho, Weller added.
“Carvers may not submit pieces that were shown in previous Brant shows, so if you attended in previous years so you will see all new projects this year,” he said.
DeCosmos is a Parksville-based group whose artists are from the Oceanside area. They will show two-dimensional wildlife and nature themed art with the public encouraged to vote for their favourite.
Most art is available for sale and there will be a separate table with carvings available for purchase.
The show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 5 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 6.
Admission is $6, with children under 12 free.
The Qualicum Beach Civic Centre is located at 747 Jones St.
