From classical and rock and roll concerts to one of the biggest vinyl record shows on the Island, here's a list of can't-miss events to mark your March music madness calendar on the Saanich Peninsula.
South Island Vinyl Record Show
Vendors from all over the Island and Lower Mainland will be in Sidney on Sunday (March 2) to sell records, swap stories and talk music at the South Island Vinyl and Record Show.
The one-day event at the Mary Winspear Centre features all manner of classic and contemporary vinyl for sale and other prized collectibles. Admission is $5, cash only.
Classical Spring 2025
Spring is coming and so is a series of classical music concerts at Mary Winspear Centre on March 9.
Classical Spring 2025 takes you on a ‘Long Walk in the Snow’ with storyteller Tom Allen’s chamber musical inspired by Johan Sebastian Bach’s 400-kilometre journey to Lubeck in Germany to hear the music of master organist Dietrich Buxtehude.
After which, the Penderecki String Quartet, one of the most celebrated chamber ensembles of their generation, will delight the audience with their chamber music repertoire of Beethoven and Brahms, to name a few. The series culminates in April with the music of Quartetto Gelato, a classical quartet.
Charlie White Theatre doors open at 1:30 p.m.; show starts at 2. Single tickets are $47, a series ticket is $120.
The '60s Music Experience – A Cavalcade of Stars
Canada’s most authentic 1960s tribute band, Backbeat will be playing some of the greatest hits from the decade's most popular groups.
The music of The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, The Monkees, The Dave Clark Five and Creedence Clearwater Revival will fill Charlie White Theatre on March 14 in a live variety show setting. Doors open at 7 p.m.; show starts at 7:30. Tickets are $45 each.
The Ashley Wey Trio
Spend an unforgettable afternoon of jazz with pianist Ashley Wey and her trio, featuring the exceptional talents of guitarist Adam Dobres and bassist Ross MacDonald on Saturday, March 15 at St. Pauls United at 2410 Malaview Ave. They'll be playing songs from the '20s to the '70s.
Tickets are $25 each at St. Paul's United Church, Tanner's or online. Show starts at 2 p.m.
The Men in Black
Canada’s premiere Johnny Cash tribute band, The Men in Black will be playing a two-hour show at Charlie White Theatre at Mary Winspear Centre on March 28. The band will perform all of Johnny’s hits such as Folsom Prison Blues, Ring of Fire, Orange Blossom and more. Videos and photos of some of the pivotal moments in his life and career will play throughout the concert.
Doors open at 7 p.m.; show starts at 7:30. Tickets are $49.50 each.
