Downtown Vernon ready to rock with Sounds series

Free concerts will be held Thursday evenings from 6-7:30 p.m. at Spirit Square, beside Museum and Archives of Vernon, from July 3-Aug. 28

A band saluting one of Canada's iconic musical groups will launch the Downtown Vernon Association's Downtown Sounds free concert series in July.

The evenings will feature free, live music from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday evenings, from July 3 to Aug. 28, at Spirit Square beside the Museum and Archives of Vernon.

"We kick things off July 3 with The Hip Replacements (Tragically Hip cover band)," said the DVA on its website. "We are so lucky to have them."

Those wishing to attend are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to soak up the sounds of local bands.

There will be a variety of food trucks, activities, and vendors, as well as some lawn games.

Porta-Potties will be available.

"Follow our social media, as we may have surprises on certain evenings, such as a fun game show dance class," said the DVA.

The Downtown Sounds summer lineup continues:

July 17: Feet First

July 24: Shawn Lightfoot Band;

July 31: Major Mambo
