The Arts and Culture Colwood Society is hosting a members' exhibition at their Goldfinch Gallery.

They say you should never judge a book its cover, but members of the Arts & Culture Colwood Society are asking you to do just that – with a twist.

For their next exhibition at the Goldfinch Art Centre, members have reimagined and created new book covers for their favourite piece of literature.

Running from June 26 through to July 20, the Judge a Book by its Cover exhibition will also feature two author readings.

Author Catherine Lang will read from her book Embedded: The irreconcilable Nature of War, Loss and Consequence, on Friday, July 11, from 6.30 to 8 p.m. Lang’s book documents her journey to honour her niece and Calgary Herald reporter Michelle Lang, who was killed while embedded with Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan in 2009.

On Friday, July 18, from 6.30 to 8 p.m., William Porter will read from his memoir ‘Lost & Found’, which tells the story of his quixotic journey in the art world.

“It's a nail-biter, so hold onto your hat,” says the society in a news release.

No pre-registration is required for the readings, but the society does suggest a donation of $5 for entry.

There will also be an opening reception held Sunday, June 29, from 1 to 3 p.m., with an author reading.

The Goldfinch Art Centre is located at 170 Goldfinch Rd., and is open Thursdays to Sundays, 12 to 4 p.m.
