India's national award-winning vocalist Mahesh Kale – renowned for his specialization in North Indian classical, semi-classical, natya-sangeet and devotional music – brings the traditional art to Victoria this month.
Kale has performed extensively across India, the U.S., Europe, United Arab Emirates, Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia, playing a key role in bringing Hindustani classical music into the mainstream.
“Indian arts boast a depth and richness rooted in ancient traditions, sophisticated esthetics, and diverse regional influences. The intricate melodies, complex rhythms, and improvisational nature of Indian classical music offer a journey into a multifaceted cultural landscape,” said Sameer Shah, founder of Conexus Events which presents the show.
“Since moving to Victoria in 2017, my wife and I have noticed limited exposure to the richness of classical Indian arts on the Island. To help bridge this gap, I’ve decided to dedicate myself to bringing world-class Indian performances to Victoria, benefiting our island community.”
Kale has collaborated with legends like Zakir Hussain, Stanley Jordan, and Aruna Sairam, and is the founder of the Indian Classical Music and Arts Foundation, teaching over a thousand students from 15 countries through his school, MKSM. Mahesh has spoken at prestigious institutions such as Stanford University, Harvard University, TEDx, and The Commonwealth Club.
Kale performs at McPherson Theatre May 22. Visit rmts.bc.ca for tickets.
