Voters head to the General Election polls Monday, April 28 for the federal election in Canada.

It's election day across the Cariboo-Prince George Riding as the 2025 federal elections get underway.

The main parties vying for the 343 seats in the House of Commons are Mark Carney’s Liberals, Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives, Jagmeet Singh’s New Democrats, Elizabeth May and Jonathan Pedneault's Greens, Yves-François Blanchet’s Bloc Quebecois and Maxime Bernier’s People’s Party of Canada. The election was called on March 23 amid a trade war with the United States and following the resignation of former Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in January.

Locally, the Cariboo-Prince George has seven candidates competing to represent the riding in Ottawa. They include incumbent MP Todd Doherty of the Conservatives, Angie Bonazzo of the NDP, Jodie Capling of the Green Party, Clinton Emslie of the Liberal Party, Rudy Sans of the PPC, Jake Wiens of the Christian Heritage Party and Independent candidate Kenneth Thomson.

Polls are open in B.C. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 28, following advance voting last week. A new federal government is expected to be named Monday night after the initial results are counted.

To find out your local poll location, visit the Elections Canada website and type in your street address. Alternatively, Canadians can look at their voter registration card. Voters can only visit their specified polling location.
