A couple of local consulting experts and authors have written a guidebook to help people find happiness and purpose in their lives.

Williams Lake residents Dr. Cindi Saj and Christa Smith are founders of Guidebook Consulting, and together they have written Finding Your Purpose: A Guidebook to a More Meaningful Life. They will be holding a book launch on Friday April 5 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tourism Discovery Centre. There will be a meet and greet, book reading and signing, as well as light snacks.

Guidebook Consulting offers a range of clinical counselling services for children, youth and adults, and provides couples and family counselling as well. Saj and Smith strive to create safe and non-judgemental spaces for their clients to explore and unpack their feelings, thoughts and experiences, which is the basis of their book.

As a therapist, Saj feels that Finding Your Purpose is full of information that she had learned throughout her experiences working with clients, and says she would share that information with her family and friends.

“It is the best strategies I have learned working for clients who are wanting to feel better for themselves,” she said. “The book is written in a way that reads like a conversation but drops golden nuggets of wisdom throughout, a book where people can take what they want, and leave what they don’t.”

Throughout Finding Your Purpose, Saj and Smith share research that demonstrates how important knowing your purpose is when it comes to self-esteem and well-being, and introduce essential techniques in mindfulness practices, positive psychology and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to help readers along their journey to a more meaningful life.

On working with Smith on a book, Saj says it was an honour and pleasure to work with and learn from someone whom she looks up to.

“I really admire Christa and her work ethic,” Saj said. “She put 100 per cent effort in and helped me stay motivated throughout our journey of writing the book.”

Saj added that Smith made the process easy and never complained, as they constantly sent work back and forth to each other on evenings and weekends, and is looking forward to whatever fun project they do next.

Saj also mentioned that the “feel-good” book recognizes that there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to happiness or a meaningful life, but reminds the reader that they deserve both and that there is a way to both.

“If we can make whoever reads it have a moment of happiness and a genuine and heartfelt smile or two, the book served its purpose.”
