Williams Lake Fire Hall opened their doors and invited the community in at their annual open house on May 25.
“The turnout was good, especially since the weather wasn’t that great,” said Cory Boyd assistant fire chief with the Williams Lake Fire Department.
He said everything was well received and this year included information on FireSmart, helping residents learn what they can do to help reduce the fire hazard around their home, with the Cariboo Regional District FireSmart Educator attending.
While there was also more education and recruitment information, the big hit was face painting. He said young visitors also enjoyed some of the challenges young aspiring firefighters were able to try like using a hose to hit targets like ducks, climbing ladders, lifting a dummy and carrying hose.
The local firefighters association also hosted a concession to help raise funds for the organization, selling hot dogs, smokies, and cotton candy to the crowd.
